Hillman Curtis is the principal at hillmancurtis.com,inc in New York City. He dropped out of college
to tour with a rock band, formed another band when that one broke up…signed a major label deal,
cut a record, got dropped by the major label... 5 years later, after bluffing his way into hack jobs, which lead to
developing CD-Rom titles for Broderbund, which lead to becoming the Art Director of Macromedia,
he started his own motion graphics company.

on life:
I was in SF speaking at a conference and the hotel they put me up in
had this thing they would do every evening between 5:30 and 6:30
…they would serve wine and cheese in the lobby for the guests and off in a corner
there was this tarot card reader…and having never had a reading I sat down with her.
Twenty minutes and ten dollars later walked away with a wonderful experience...
and something she said that has been swimming in my head ever since.
She flipped the last card and said, "this card represents balance…
the balance you don't have now…this is your challenge…
to achieve balance" Being work obsessed for the last three years,
this made a lot of sense.

on design:
Design is a wonderful craft. It bottomless, I can continue to expand and work
my way through levels, getting better, trying new things, drawing inspiration
from my peers, drawing inspiration from older designers, finding design in everything around me…
pushing it the best I can…always ready to learn,
always hoping to innovate and inspire.
